Olive oil dipping sauce

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cups of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 finely chopped garlic clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt flakes
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 or 1 teaspoon of dried red chilli flakes

In the Byzantine Empire, bread dipped in olive oil used to be a very common recipe and still is a favourite in today’s Mediterranean kitchens. Some of the more common traditional Byzantine breads were artos, paximadia and traganos. However, for this recipe you can choose any type of bread depending on your preferences period to prepare for the olive oil dipping sauce, follow the instructions below.

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Leave to rest for 30 minutes until the flavors develop and then serve with bread.

 

Note:

  1. For this recipe, it is recommended that you use cold pressed, early harvest extra-virgin olive oil such as Byzantium by DARVARI or DARVARI Ottoman. This will make your dipping sauce taste better and healthier, due to the higher concentration of antioxidants.
  2. Use sea salt flakes for best flavour and texture. Adjust the amount of salt to suit your taste.
  3. Adjust the amount chilli flakes depending on how spicy you want your sauce to be.
